Jinxed myself on the snow situation...

you might have heard about the NW Jan2012 SNOWSTORM..we still have a long way to go to the melt out stages. N has been driving us both in to work with the green jeep in 4wd the entire way. i wear my helmet also. i HATE driving/riding in this stuff & i already stayed home twice this week due to the weather.
my brother has a wood railroad tie he chains to the back of a truck to plow the driveway. i did my part on the pathway shoveling.
the gate & driveway after plow

going in

the river still flowing

ShooFly Pie bakery...

last weekend friends we've known since childhood came up to check out the ranch and watch the Seahawks(lose). it was a great time by all. they brought up these DELISHious pies from a new bakery in West Seattle. i checked the website & they are all made fresh with no preservatives.

if we're ever in WS, this will be added to the stops. they have a bacon & mac n cheese pie!

far pie: Black Raspberry near pie: Apple
this is what the pies looked like the morning after their visit..then i finished the apple.

done with wood?

the wood is finally stacked & ready for burning.

got power [washing]?

recently i power washed the back of A's house. this included the side & the moss covered cement walkways on both side. it was fun, thank goodness for the hot weather the beginning of september. even if we aren't working..we've definitely been working.

if you're interested in pictures & even a short tutorial video [haha]...

got shed?

the second shed was up & installed in 2 days. we finished stacking the the wood today.. this project should be done..i hope. someday i'll post a pic of it full, but i'm sure you can imagine it :)

got wood?

up here in the county, apparently wood heat is the heat source for the wintertime. A's friend dropped off a trailer of corded wood for us. N&A rented a log splitter & split it. half has been stacked in the wood shed now, the rest won't fit. N will get to build a second wood cover lean-to in the next couple weeks. i've been online applying for jobs & sending out resumes left & right--no luck so far. i really don't plan/want to be out here by the time winter hits & we have to use the wood for heat. since i have poor circulation, Raynauds Syndrone & have always been cold--[not because i lived in cali for a little while (sorry, i hear that all the time from people that don't know me but like to talk about me;)], i enjoy the ability to have the heat as high as i need since i'm adult now.

Maple Falls Car Show

on saturday there was a car & truck show closeby in Maple Falls. we went down to check it out. it was pretty big & i got some pics of some cars i liked. it was so nice out too..about 83degrees or so. there was a pretty big turnout of people from the county & city that came out as well.

Nooksack Cemetery

a cool part of living up here, is all the old towns. the towns all have old, tiny cemeteries. they are well maintained & a "living" part of the history of the northern, northwest.

taking down a wasp nest, ranch style..

step by step...we had a medium sized nest starting to become active right next to the front door.
to see action shots...

Molly

got to see "cousin" Molly a couple weeks ago. she's such a cutie. we've also been working with Tim on walking outside. he seems to really enjoy it

first you see it...

here's a view from the front porch.

when the clouds roll in..the big mountain completely vanishes. pretty cool.

i have this old stuff we had growing up that is a powder your sprinkle on a fire & it changes the colors to blue, green & purple. it's sold on amazon now. our package is a bit older.

Thunder-cat...

Thunder needs to be introduced. he is my brothers cat who started hanging around his place a few years ago & they adopted each other. a couple winters ago, Thunder disappeared for weeks. my brother had signs up & kept searching. after a few weeks, a call came from the local Brewery about 6 miles down the road. Thunder had shown up there! they had a flyer of him being lost & after an overnite of Thunder meowing constantly at the brewer, he looked at the Lost & Found board, thought it might be Thunder & called A to come take a look. even being super skinny..it was Thunder for sure.
he hasn't ventured far since that expedition. him & tim get along great. he's an egyptian mau..similar to meeko [M&E's kitty how stayed with us for a little while].

fire..fire @ the ranch..

we've had a couple fires in the pit so far, i love them-the heat & to poke the fire with my pokein stick whiile toastin up smores. another awesome treat to living here is gerty meat. she is a local lady who sells meat cuts direct. the sausages are even gout-ok for my brother. her ground meat melts in your mouth. the bacon though...mmm... bacon...is to die for.
