Witco Wood & Metal Cat Wall Art

got this recent find at an estate sale on 1/2 price day! i haven't seen many online that are both wood & metal. there are lots of Witco wood cats, but no added metal accent. this company did the furniture for Elvis Presley's Jungle Room at Graceland. they also did a lot of "shag" style art & leaders in the Tiki rage.

i can't wait to find some more Witco art. this is why i go to garage sales, not only for something cool; but to learn all about a new(old) company & their great history in Americana Culture!

recent finds in northern wa...

it's been a little while since posting new finds, found during employment :)

i have a few basics "rules" i try to stick with.
-no more than $10 for "wall art"
- i get rid of at least 1 old thing when i bring in 1 new (N does too)
-if i'm not sure, i'll set the item back down & keep looking. if it nags in my head i may go back.
i actually get a thrill out of NOT buying things & being able to put something back over half of the time. my taste ranges in everything from hand made wood stuff to ethnic art to toys!

fleaing it out at the market last Sunday...

we did the flea market stall again last sunday. there were a lot more people that came through so that was cool. didn't sell too much, but enough to pay for the space..& 2 coffees :)

Lynden Antiquing..

we checked out the Lynden antique shops the other day. they have about 3 good shops to go through. unfortunately, the shop i was going to buy a couple rings from had a broken CC machine. which was OK with me, since it wasn't meant to be.
it's such a fun process to look at everything in the stores. you'll find something you like, keep walking around, and either find something better OR realize you really don't need the other. there's no pressure to shop fast in these stores, most even have bathrooms available.

i looked through about 100 pins & found 1!
this one was great. i can't wait to try to make a ring out of it.

job front being extremely depressing up here, we've been looking for cheap or free activities to keep from getting too down. thankfully, the cats are healthy, food stamps for food & a roof over our heads.

last nite we went to our first auction. there's a place up here that is an antique shop on one side & the other they run auctions out of. we went to preview the goods the day before so we knew what we were interested in. went home & researched them on ebay for prices as to what they might sell for. there were about 500 items & the auctioneer went straight through them -- so it only took a couple hours or so. we each had our own numbers. i got a used Victoria Skimboard (for a decoration) a box of costume jewelry & sequin purses. N got some fun things like bolt cutters (i actually wanted them) a camo net suit hunters wear when looking for game & a cool blue glass pitcher.

of course there was more we wanted but the bids went up to high. we're definitely going back again. doesn't cost anything..unless you bid & win.
