we watched this movie last weekend.
it was great! Bill Maher focuses on Christianity, Muslim and a little bit of the Jewish religions. it was interesting to see him ask people questions and the varied and angry answers he would receive.
i loved that most of the catholic priests seemed very down to earth. i remember that from growing up catholic and going to an all girls high school. the nuns were some of the smartest most unbiased people i'd met. they fully acknowledged the problems in catholicism with women but their desire to serve a higher power made them able to concede to certain ideologies (ie nuns can't be priests ect.) we would have week long discussions about the differences. they were so open minded. i even wrote my final english term paper (the big one) on why marijuana should be legalized. sister loved it but due to grammar errors i got a b. i even played the song "lets talk about sex" for prayer one morning since it was topical to the lessons for that week and she loved it too. the other girls had sort of dared me and i think they were also impressed with sister.
i hope you can check out the movie and view with an open mind.

Heckler...the movie
i was going to start this out with a nice picture of the movie cover..but after goggling google images for "heckler" the first page was full off....guess...it's pretty funny considering what the movie itself was about... alright, here it is:
GUNS! -- to the "review"
the best movie i've seen Jamie Kennedy in. he is also the producer. the old adage "sticks & stones will break my bones, but names will never hurt me" is what the movie was loosely based on.
jamie interviews comedians, actors, critics,producers,directors and hecklers from shows he's down. the movie flows really well. it made me think about the way i interact with people on a daily basis. i've always loved going to comedy shows and i've always hated the folks in the crowd that heckle. they interrupt the flow of the comedian and make everyone else uncomfortable. when the spotlight is turned on them, they of course can't handle it.
i wish we hadn't sent it back to netflix so i could watch it again...bummer.

today was a good day! got the car back and it has power now. went to check the mail and look what was waiting for me. this awesome personally autographed BAM ~ Minghags promo sheet!!

Trumbo & Mozza for lunch...
ever heard of Dalton Trumbo?
he was one of the blacklisted 10 during the hollywood commie witch hunt. he wrote many screenplays including Spartacus, Roman Holiday and Johnny Get Your Gun (book also). i hadn't known too much about him before going to see the movie his son made based on his letters.
great movie!
then to Pizzeria Mozza co-owned by Mario Batali (he wasn't there though)on Highland for lunch:
...J had heard about Mario's place and wanted to check it out. i'm always down for pizza so away we went. when we pulled up, the valets insisted we pay the 8.50 to valet. J didn't mind but i would have driven right back out and found street parking..that's 2 days of del taco after all. haha. there was a giant door to enter through with no signage. how chi-chi.

fried squash blossom w/ricotta ($12) ~ Margherita Pizza ($13)
i'd never had fried squash blossoms before and boy are they DELISH!!! OMG they almost melted in your mouth and tasted like candy. the ricotta inside wasn't overpowering (in fact i hardly tasted it). we split the pizza (perfect for 2 people lunch). the crust was cooked perfectly and super thin. no burn marks at all! the sauce was lite and had a bit of a wine flavor in it (yummy). the restaurant itself is tiny. we counted about 10-12 tables and the bar seating (wine side and pizza bar side). very tight. i couldn't imagine if it was busier. i ordered a coke and was told the 8oz bottle was imported from holland so it had "real sugar" not corn syrup. i didn't taste much of a difference except it was kinda flat...but they don't have any pop on tap and only 1 speciality beer...the rest was wine.
if i was in the neighborhood and had some $$ i'd probably come back...depending on if it was busy or not.

movie review...on a lighter note...
we watched a few movies lately:
national treasures 2 last nite. it was ok. i liked that it flowed pretty quick, the 2 hours didn't drag. it was pretty predictable. i enjoyed ed harris and harvey keitel. it seemed like there was so much more they needed to explain but didn't have time so rushed through the plot. i've always been a nic cage fan, even with his hairpiece.
we also watched first sunday. that was a let-down. i knew it wasn't going to be as funny as the fridays since it was pg-13, but i didn't expect a family movie. don't waste your time on that one.
war with jet lee and jason statham was eyhhh. i love thier individual movies and it seemed like they could have done a lot more with their experience. the twists at the end were ok. i was kind of annoyed with one. the action scenes were well choreographed and fun but the dialogue, chemistry and movement of the plot were sadly lacking.
smiley face with anna farris was great! i totally wasn't expecting such a funny stoner movie with a girl as the main character. we had no idea the plot of this when we added it to the ole netflix cue. i'm laughing now just thinking of some parts. danny masterson (70's show), john cho (harold & kumar) and john krasinski (jim from the office) are in it as well.
and the last one, favela rising. this is an "indie movie" made about the ghettos in rio de janerio called favelas. there, the hope is minimual and survival consists of joining gangs and violence. this is about the hope that reggae music gave to men and women in a particular favela. they created youth programs and sucessfully kept many young children from the drug way of life. i highly recommend this movie.
